PHRYGIA. Apameia. C. Fannius, praetor, 49/8 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 28 mm, 12.19 g, 12 h), Mantitheos, son of Mantitheos, magistrate. Cista mystica from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. C FAN PONT PR - ΑΠΑ - MΑΝΤΙΘΕΟΣ / MΑΝΤΙΘ[ΕΟΥ] Two serpents flanking domed tetrastyle temple surmounted by female cult statue holding patera and sceptre; to left, bow; to right, two flutes. Metcalf 478 (this coin, O24/R77). SNG Copenhagen 159. SNG von Aulock 3464. Stumpf 57. Rare and with a fine pedigree. A beautifully toned and attractive coin. Good very fine.
